What Goes In HOT – Comes Out HOT!

For dinner, my family ate at our favorite hot wing restaurant – Wings-N-Things- before going to Chuck E Cheese’s to let the kiddos play.

They have different degrees of Hot and variety of flavors. I ordered the Atomic Hot with BBQ. Here’s a clue. They may have named it after the “atomic” bomb.

My sinuses cleared and my nose was runny. My mouth was burning but it tasted good. I ate 4 of 6 and just couldn’t do it.

My dad wanted to try. Maybe he saw how much fun I was having. =)

I warned him it’s very hot that it could make him cry. My dad replied while looking at my mom (with an inside joke), “I cry all the time at home.”

He took one bite and was done. “Why do kids like this,” he commented.

“You know Junior, this will make your poo-poo hot,” he added.

I affirmed my dad’s statement, “What goes in hot will come out!”

The next morning…

My stomach felt some unrest so it was time to take the Browns to the Superbowl. Let’s just say the Browns were on-fire and it went into triple overtime.

This brings me to today’s lesson in Proverbs 22 since it’s March 22. A chapter a day keeps the devil at bay!

There are many observations we can make from this chapter.

What flies out of this text is verses 22-25.

We tend to step on people to get ahead in our career. We align ourselves with those with a “good name and reputation” so that others will associate us with their “celebrity” status. We become people pleasers if it furthers our agenda and we become people pushers if they’re in our way.

The devil will help you up the ladder to the very top and push you off.

New Living Translation (NLT)
Proverbs 22

1 Choose a good reputation over great riches;
being held in high esteem is better than silver or gold.

2 The rich and poor have this in common:
The LORD made them both.

3 A prudent person foresees danger and takes precautions.
The simpleton goes blindly on and suffers the consequences.

4 True humility and fear of the LORD
lead to riches, honor, and long life.

5 Corrupt people walk a thorny, treacherous road;
whoever values life will avoid it.

6 Direct your children onto the right path,
and when they are older, they will not leave it.

7 Just as the rich rule the poor,
so the borrower is servant to the lender.

8 Those who plant injustice will harvest disaster,
and their reign of terror will come to an end.

9 Blessed are those who are generous,
because they feed the poor.

10 Throw out the mocker, and fighting goes, too.
Quarrels and insults will disappear.

11 Whoever loves a pure heart and gracious speech
will have the king as a friend.

12 The LORD preserves those with knowledge,
but he ruins the plans of the treacherous.

13 The lazy person claims, “There’s a lion out there!
If I go outside, I might be killed!”

14 The mouth of an immoral woman is a dangerous trap;
those who make the LORD angry will fall into it.

15 A youngster’s heart is filled with foolishness,
but physical discipline will drive it far away.

16 A person who gets ahead by oppressing the poor
or by showering gifts on the rich will end in poverty.

Sayings of the Wise

17 Listen to the words of the wise;
apply your heart to my instruction.
18 For it is good to keep these sayings in your heart
and always ready on your lips.
19 I am teaching you today—yes, you—
so you will trust in the LORD.
20 I have written thirty sayings for you,
filled with advice and knowledge.
21 In this way, you may know the truth
and take an accurate report to those who sent you.

22 Don’t rob the poor just because you can,
or exploit the needy in court.
23 For the LORD is their defender.
He will ruin anyone who ruins them.

 24 Don’t befriend angry people
      or associate with hot-tempered people,
25 or you will learn to be like them
      and endanger your soul.

26 Don’t agree to guarantee another person’s debt
or put up security for someone else.
27 If you can’t pay it,
even your bed will be snatched from under you.

28 Don’t cheat your neighbor by moving the ancient boundary markers
set up by previous generations.

29 Do you see any truly competent workers?
They will serve kings
rather than working for ordinary people.

I love how certain songs make us feel. When we workout and the right song plays, it gives us extra energy. God made us for worship and good works. If we worship and love Him, we will want to serve Him by doing good things that He has prepared for us. (See Romans 8:28-39)

  • Lecrae – Used To Do it Too

(Intro)
Hey, KB, man, you know we don’t brag on our past
We just relate
Some folks think they mistakes
Gonna keep them out the gates
It ain’t about what you do, it’s about what He did
Let’s go!

(Hook)
I used to do it too, I used to do it too,
I used to do it, used to do it, used to do it too
I used to do it too, I used to do it too,
I used to do it, used to do it, used to do it too
But I’m changed, now I’m something different (Aye)
I’m changed, I love the way I’m living (Aye)
I’m changed, saved me from my own sin (Aye)
I’m changed, I learned how to live again (Aye)

Verse 1:
Uhuh
Ah man you name it bra, I promise I done done it all
so busy doin me that I aint care at all (but I’m changed)
I know I aint the person that I used to be
I look the same but maine I promise this a newer me
see what I used to be was selfish and conceited
I was living for myself and telling Jesus he could beat it
at the time I couldn’t see it, all I saw was havin fun
went to church to look for ladies, not to look upon the Son
I was a hedonist, now Jesus is my pleasure
I was a narcissist, but now I’m lookin betta.
but I ain’t fix myself, aint turn myself around
I gave it up and told the Lord that he can have it now

Verse 2:
I was tryin to figure what’s a goone to a goblin
that’s nonsense tell me this though what’s a goone to the God-Head
I gotta seed sown from the Regal
Then He deboed all my evil and my ego
Now I devote, all of me bro, to the King so
We know that he redeems souls
Got that right homie I’m different.
At times i don’t be feelin it.
Salvation aint a feelin lil homie its a positionin
Great sinners sin is great but the Great Savior is omnipotent
And you quit dissin Him you ain’t got no sins that He can’t forgive.

Verse 3:
You see Satan uses guilt to strip away our hope
He shows us our mistakes and tells us we’re a joke
I used to sit and mope like what’s the point in all
If I’m a Christian how come everyday I seem to fall
But I ain’t know that all my sins were nailed upon the cross
I found this out in chapter 2 in the Book of Colossians
See the devil’s a liar, yeah he’s an accuser
He tells me I’m worthless, he says I’m a loser
But now I refuse to let him lead me wrong
Reading the Word in the morn got me feeling strong
I found my worth in Christ and I’m pursuing truth
A living testimony so you can do it too

  • Romulo Costa / Tori Kelly – Revelation Song

Worthy is the Lamb who was slain
Holy, holy is He
Sing a new song to Him who sits on
Heaven’s mercy seat

Worthy is the Lamb who was slain
Holy, holy is He
Sing a new song to Him who sits on
Heaven’s mercy seat

Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty
Who was and is and is to come
With all creation I sing praise to the King of kings
You are my everything and I will adore You

Clothed in rainbows of living color
Flashes of lighting rolls of thunder
Blessing and honor strength and glory and power be
To You the only one who’s King

Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty
Who was and is and is to come
With all creation I sing praise to the King of kings
You are my everything and I will adore You

Filled with wonder awestruck wonder
At the mention of Your name
Jesus Your name is power, breath and living water
Such a marvelous mystery

Oh, You’re worthy, mystery
You are worthy

Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty
Who was and is and is to come
With all creation I sing praise to the King of kings
You are my everything and I will adore You, I will adore

New International Version (NIV)
Matthew 15
That Which Defiles

1 Then some Pharisees and teachers of the law came to Jesus from Jerusalem and asked, 2“Why do your disciples break the tradition of the elders? They don’t wash their hands before they eat!” 3 Jesus replied, “And why do you break the command of God for the sake of your tradition?4 For God said, ‘Honor your father and mother’ and ‘Anyone who curses their father or mother is to be put to death.’ 5 But you say that if anyone declares that what might have been used to help their father or mother is ‘devoted to God,’ 6 they are not to ‘honor their father or mother’ with it. Thus you nullify the word of God for the sake of your tradition. 7You hypocrites! Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you:

8 “‘These people honor me with their lips,
but their hearts are far from me.
9 They worship me in vain;
their teachings are merely human rules.’

10 Jesus called the crowd to him and said, “Listen and understand. 11 What goes into someone’s mouth does not defile them, but what comes out of their mouth, that is what defiles them.”

12 Then the disciples came to him and asked, “Do you know that the Pharisees were offended when they heard this?”

13 He replied, “Every plant that my heavenly Father has not planted will be pulled up by the roots. 14 Leave them; they are blind guides. If the blind lead the blind, both will fall into a pit.”

15 Peter said, “Explain the parable to us.”

16 “Are you still so dull?” Jesus asked them. 17 “Don’t you see that whatever enters the mouth goes into the stomach and then out of the body? 18 But the things that come out of a person’s mouth come from the heart, and these defile them. 19 For out of the heart come evil thoughts—murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander. 20 These are what defile a person; but eating with unwashed hands does not defile them.”

The Faith of a Canaanite Woman

21 Leaving that place, Jesus withdrew to the region of Tyre and Sidon. 22 A Canaanite woman from that vicinity came to him, crying out, “Lord, Son of David, have mercy on me! My daughter is demon-possessed and suffering terribly.” 23 Jesus did not answer a word. So his disciples came to him and urged him, “Send her away, for she keeps crying out after us.”

24 He answered, “I was sent only to the lost sheep of Israel.”

25 The woman came and knelt before him. “Lord, help me!” she said.

26 He replied, “It is not right to take the children’s bread and toss it to the dogs.”

27 “Yes it is, Lord,” she said. “Even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their master’s table.”

28 Then Jesus said to her, “Woman, you have great faith! Your request is granted.” And her daughter was healed at that moment.

Jesus Feeds the Four Thousand

29 Jesus left there and went along the Sea of Galilee. Then he went up on a mountainside and sat down. 30 Great crowds came to him, bringing the lame, the blind, the crippled, the mute and many others, and laid them at his feet; and he healed them. 31 The people were amazed when they saw the mute speaking, the crippled made well, the lame walking and the blind seeing. And they praised the God of Israel. 32 Jesus called his disciples to him and said, “I have compassion for these people; they have already been with me three days and have nothing to eat. I do not want to send them away hungry, or they may collapse on the way.”

33 His disciples answered, “Where could we get enough bread in this remote place to feed such a crowd?”

34 “How many loaves do you have?” Jesus asked.

“Seven,” they replied, “and a few small fish.”

35 He told the crowd to sit down on the ground. 36 Then he took the seven loaves and the fish, and when he had given thanks, he broke them and gave them to the disciples, and they in turn to the people. 37 They all ate and were satisfied. Afterward the disciples picked up seven basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over. 38 The number of those who ate was four thousand men, besides women and children. 39 After Jesus had sent the crowd away, he got into the boat and went to the vicinity of Magadan.
