I love some of the things that come out of the mouth of my 4-year old son. He’s learning to gather his thoughts and form his sentences. He is able to on-the-fly sing a praise song to God that can last up to 5-mins. Some of the lyrics are: God is so handsome and smart / He loves me / God says yes to buying me toys. =)

There was also another time, I saw him do something “nice” but I can’t remember what. However when I asked him how did he know to do that, he replied, “God made it in my heart.”

As we start Chapter 3 of the Book of Acts, we’ll see Peter and John do something nice for another person.

Act 3:1 – Now Peter and John went up together to the temple at the hour of prayer, the ninth hour.

Peter and John went looking for a good fishing spot for large mouth bass. What better place to fish for the souls of men than the temple during the hour of prayer.

Act 3:2 – And a certain man lame from his mother’s womb was carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful, to ask alms from those who entered the temple;

Act 3:3 – who, seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple, asked for alms.

Hook line and sinker! Peter by faith reaches out to this dear soul to give him something better than a handout.

Act 3:4 – And fixing his eyes on him, with John, Peter said, “Look at us.”

Act 3:5 – So he gave them his attention, expecting to receive something from them.

Act 3:6 – Then Peter said, “Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk.”

Act 3:7 – And he took him by the right hand and lifted him up, and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength.

Wow! This is a beautiful and powerful picture (especially if you’re an eye-witness) to an immediate healing like that. It’s like a coach who sees his player execute a perfect play. I can imagine God saying, “Wait for it…wait for it.” =) I believe God was extremely pleased to see their faith-in-action.

Act 3:8 – So he, leaping up, stood and walked and entered the temple with them—walking, leaping, and praising God.

Act 3:9 – And all the people saw him walking and praising God.

Act 3:10 – Then they knew that it was he who sat begging alms at the Beautiful Gate of the temple; and they were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him.

Body language often says more than our words. It’s like the satisfaction of watching a touchdown for your team. You’re stoked and at the same time the player is so pumped he can’t help but do a touchdown dance.

Act 3:11 – Now as the lame man who was healed held on to Peter and John, all the people ran together to them in the porch which is called Solomon’s, greatly amazed.

It’s like Peter and John threw out some fish bait and all the fish are coming to feed. Peter is like “Woot! Brotha John,we savin’ this location on the GPS fish finder.”

We’ll see Peter use this opportunity to preach the Good News….but off in the background are some angry fishermen that didn’t like them fishing in their spot.

To be continued…

Have a great weekend!
